About

Nick outside the Antietam Battlefield Visitor CenterMy name is Nick Burchett, I have been interested in US Civil War history since the mid 1990′s. I have since become more interested and focused on the events in Missouri and Kansas, including the events leading up to and during the Civil war.

I started becoming more interested as I started searching for my ancestors who may have fought during the war and ended up discovering that my great-great grandfather, Joseph Burchett, served in Cochran’s Bollinger County VMM (Volunteer Missouri Militia) which was initially designated “Company A, 79th Regiment, Enlisted Missouri Militia” and then reformed after their tour of duty was up by Captain John R. Cochran. The other two ancestors are traced from my grandmother’s side, Jesse F. Bond, who served in Co. G 154th Illinois Infantry and Hiram T. Shirrell who served with Co. G 31st Indiana Infantry.

I currently attend Columbia College finishing a Bachelors degree in History with a minor in Religious Studies. My end goal is to earn my Masters Degree in American History.

I am currently the President of the South Central Missouri Civil War Round Table, a member of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (Sigel Camp #614),  a member of the Cold War Veterans Association, and the VFW

I am a US Army veteran, married, have three great kids and work for the US Army at Ft Leonard Wood US Army base.
